Sorghum Sudan is an annual warm season grass with very rapid growth and extremely high biomass potential. The robust root system allows the grass to pull nutrients from the subsoil to the upper soil profile. With its high biomass potential, it has the ability to increase soil organic matter levels at a accelerated rate. It has excellent heat and drought tolerance. By mowing or grazing when plants are 3-4 feet tall, this greatly increases the root depth and size, which in turn decreases soil compaction, and increases nutrient scavanging. Sorghum sudan is best utilized in a warm season cover crop mix.
