Buckwheat is best utilized as a quick growing, warm season cover crop. It is very good for a short growing window when a warm season cover is needed. Buckwheat is an excellent weed suppressor, increases phosphoros availability, and attracts beneficial pollinators when it is flowering. Buckwheat should be terminated within a week after flowering to eliminate the risk of reseeding. It can also be utilized in a warm season cover crop blend and as a winter-kill cover, as it is highly sensitive to frost.
